Gary Wragg

Born  in 1946, Gary Wragg studied painting at Camberwell and the Slade between 1966 and 1971.In between his first solo show at Acme Gallery in 1976 and his most recent at Flowers East in 2008, he has developed an immensely fertile, varied and personal approach to the making of abstract painting. Stemming in the main from the example of abstract expressionism (particularly William de Kooning, whom he met in the mid-Eighties) his work, its ‘exuberant fireworks’, defies categorisation, refusing to maintain constancies of handling, format or colour. He work is represented in public and private collections internationally, including the Arts Council of Great Britain and the Pompidou Centre, Paris.
